Shoulder MRI scan
Magnetic resonance imaging is the most accurate and reliable method for examining the causes of pain and problems in the shoulder region. An MRI scan shows both soft tissue and bone changes at the same time, unlike an ultrasound scan or X-ray, for example.
Typically, people seek a shoulder MRI scan because of various shoulder pains and injuries. Problems may have arisen suddenly as a result of an injury, or over time through constant strain and wear and tear on the joint. MRI can also be used to identify the root causes of limited shoulder mobility.
Common causes of shoulder symptoms include rotator cuff tears and inflammation, other shoulder ligament injuries and various types of cartilage damage.
An MRI scan is often performed before surgical procedures.
